The Harry Gwala District Municipality launched its back-to-school program on the 3rd February 2026, focusing on school functionality and monitoring

Led by Mayor Cllr. Zamo Nxumalo, the initiative aims to support rural schools, encourage learners, and promote the value of education.Deputy Mayor Cllr. Nosisa Jojozi visited Sonyongwana High School at Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Local Municipality, while Speaker Cllr. Sibongiseni Mdunge visited Franklin Secondary School at Greater Kokstad Local Municipality , where school shoes, lab kit , and calculators were distributed.Mayor Cllr. Zamo Nxumalo emphasized the importance of education at Diepkloof Combined School based in Umzimkhulu Local Municipality , urging learners to dedicate themselves to their studies. The district's matric class of 2025 has an impressive 89.7% pass rate showing greater improvement from previous years.The Harry Gwala District Municipality is committed in supporting education, with plans to continue its back-to-school programs in future and to provide necessary resources to schools.
