30 April 2025

The Harry Gwala District Municipality
recently held a project handover ceremony at Mahhehle in ward 1, which is under Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality now known as Johannes Phumani Phungula (JPP).
The project handover, which was attended by the Honourable Mayor, Cllr Zamokwakhe Nxumalo, marked the beginning of a new borehole project aimed at providing sustainable water supply to the community.

The project, valued at R4,193,210.00, will benefit 349 households and a population of 1745 people. MM Industries, the appointed management contractor will oversee the project's implementation, which includes drilling, testing, and equipping the boreholes with solar panels. The project is expected to be completed within six months.

The Mayor emphasized on the importance of hiring local people, especially youngsters and women, to create job opportunities within the Mahhehle area. He also stressed the need for even distribution of water installation throughout the area to ensure that all residents benefit from the project.

The borehole project will provide a reliable source of clean water for the Mahhehle community, improving their quality of life and promoting health and sanitation. The use of solar panels will also reduce the community's reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

The local municipality Cllr L.S.N. Mbele of ward 1 urged the community to safeguard the water boreholes and infrastructure, emphasizing that the project's success relies on their cooperation and responsible behaviour. By working together, the community can ensure the long-term sustainability of the project and reap its benefits for years to come.
