Harry Gwala District Municipality Nears Completion of Gudlucingo Water Supply Scheme
On the 14th January 2026, the Harry Gwala District Municipality management team, and leadership led by Mayor Zamo Nxumalo, recently conducted a project monitoring visit to the Gudlucingo Water Supply Scheme, which is 90% complete and expected to be finalized by the end of January 2026.
- *Creighton Water Supply Scheme*: Construction of river abstraction works and associated infrastructure
- *Creighton Water Supply Scheme Phase 2*: Construction of rising and gravity mains
- *Creighton Bulk Water Supply Scheme (Wards 5, 6, 8 & 14)*: Upgrade of water treatment works from 1ML/day to 5ML/day
- *Khukhulela Sub-Regional Scheme (Portion 3)*: Construction of a rising main serving Ward 05
During the visit, Mayor Nxumalo emphasized that 2026 will be a performance-driven year, urging officials to uphold accountability, cooperation, and high service delivery standards. He highlighted the importance of community engagement, such as workshops with traditional leadership, to prevent vandalism and safeguard critical infrastructure.
The aim of these visits is to ensure the municipality meets its goals by providing sufficient, clean, and drinkable water to its citizens, fostering community participation and ownership, and committing to transparency, accountability, and consultation in service delivery.
All these water supply schemes are underway to improve water access, with projects expected to be completed by the end of April 2026. The Mkhohlwa-Mdayane Water Supply Scheme was also assessed during this visit.
