Harry Gwala District Municipality Hands Over Jetting Truck to Kokstad Satellite

28 November 2025

The Harry Gwala District Municipality today, 28 November 2025, officially handed over a new 5-ton jetting truck at the uMngeni Water Satellite to strengthen service delivery in the Kokstad Satellite area.

The truck was received by Mayor Zamo Nxumalo, supported by Cllr S.D. Bekwa and Water Executive Director Mr L. Gwala, before being formally handed over to Ms Khanyi Mduna, the Kokstad Area Manager.

The new jetting truck features a powerful diesel engine delivering 400 Nm of torque, dual rear wheels for enhanced stability, and a high-capacity dropside body designed for heavy-duty operations.

This strategic addition will significantly reduce frequent sewer blockages affecting Kokstad, Franklin, Underberg, and surrounding low-cost areas. It will improve response times, minimize sewer spillages, and reduce the high costs previously incurred through outsourced services.

Mayor Nxumalo emphasized that this investment demonstrates the district’s commitment to improving water and sanitation services and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment for all communities. He further highlighted that the municipality now operates a fleet of 10 service trucks purchased internally, eliminating the need for hiring and resulting in substantial cost savings.

Kokstad, as the district’s largest town, central city, and key economic hub, is expected to benefit greatly from this latest addition to the fleet.
